. Kadri Gopalnath, who was called as the saxophone wizard, passed away recently. He was reportedly ill for the last couple of months and was admitted in the hospital recently. Fans and well-wishers, close to him and his family are mourning his death on social mediaSaxophone expert, Kadri Gopalnath, breathed his last early this morning. He was reportedly ill for the last three months and admitted in the hospital on Thursday after which his health deteriorated. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Kadri mastered playing Carnatic music using a western instrument. Maestro N Gopalakrishna Iyer was his first Guru and though it took him a lot of time to fuse Carnatic music with western, he did so with hard work and sincerity. It took him nearly 20 years to master it but he eventually did and was acknowledged as a Carnatic music genius.quoted in an interview and said that he used to practice at Jogi Mutt in Kadri, which used to be deserted at the time. It also helped him focus, be around nature and made him achieve his goals. He revealed in the interview that though Chennai gave him the best Guru that he could have asked for, it was Mangaluru that gave him the platform and foundation for his career.

He has performed all over the world including in Europe, USA, Canada and Australia, to name a few. He was even awarded a lot of titles, including a Padmashree award by the later former President, APJ Abdul Kalam.

He had presented his first concert at the All India Radio in Mangaluru in 1978.
