C# Winform Save File Dialog
Posted : admin On 06.01.2020This was asked in AS5023. The response was 'Processed (Accepted - releast TBD)'.It looks rather odd to have the open, save, and folder browse dialog not mach the look and feel of the application. End users don't understand that its a system dialog, not one from the application, or even know the difference (or care!) So, I think it's a fairly important suggestion. So important that if you folks don't add it I will write my own dialogs. However, I would rather not spend the time on that only to have your next release have it implemented. So, I was wondering if it is something you think you will implement in the somewhat near future?
(perhaps within the next year?)thanks,Tom. Hello Tom,Thank you for sharing your idea with us, I appreciate it. The primary bottleneck with these dialogs is that there is no straightforward way to apply the skinning technology to standard windows.
It is impossible to accomplish this using managed approaches. However, it is possible to create similar dialogs from scratch. This will give you a similar visual presentation, but they will not support all the features provided by standard dialogs. That is why we are not going to introduce this functionality in the near future.
This will be only a half-completed solution, which won't satisfy most part of our customers. Anyway, our developers are currently discussing the possibility to implement this functionality in another way.

However, I cannot give you any estimate regarding this, my apologies.Thanks,Stan. Thanks for the information.Yes, I am aware that you can't automagically apply your skins to the standard Windows dialog. I was referring to making new dialogs from scratch to give similar functionality. I realize that these dialogs aren't the same on different platforms of Windows (XP, Vista, etc.) I am ok with them not being an exact match to the system dialogs. When my applicaiton is using skins, it doesn't look much like anything standard anyway. If the user has skins turned off, I'll show the standard Windows dialogs instead. Thanks for the information.

I look forward to seeing what your developers may come up with for a future version, even if its not so soon.Tom.
